DZIDZO’s lasting impact on communities
“What will DZIDZO leave behind after its work in a community?” This is the daily question that guides the team’s actions.
Through the adoption of the CLTS (Community-Led Total Sanitation) methodology, DZIDZO goes beyond simply building infrastructure; its primary goal is to leave a lasting impact. This approach allows for the genuine integration of hygiene practices and the development of local skills, particularly in the construction and maintenance of family latrines.
The community is involved in every stage of the process, from awareness-raising to providing technical construction guidelines. This gradual involvement fosters ownership of the actions, strengthens the beneficiaries’ autonomy, and enables them to take over with full responsibility, even in the absence of the DZIDZO team.
DZIDZO’s work in a community results in a lasting change in behavior, increased local skills, and a strengthened capacity for communities to ensure the continuity of sanitation and hygiene efforts themselves.
