Welcome Message

Welcome

Welcome Message

DZIDZO, which means "Joy" in the Ewe language, is an association working to improve the socioeconomic and cultural living conditions of disadvantaged people in Togo through a participatory approach. Like all other associations, DZIDZO has set objectives to achieve its vision, and various actions will be undertaken during this new adventure.

How We Work

Every project we undertake, whether it's fostering entrepreneurship, improving access to clean water and safe sanitation, or supporting children's education and adult literacy, shares a common goal: to sustainably improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities. Through a participatory and inclusive approach involving communities and local governments, we implement concrete actions that strengthen self-reliance, stimulate local potential, and pave the way for a fairer future.

Context and challenges

  • The Togolese population is projected to reach approximately 9.7 million in 2025, while the extreme poverty rate reached 25.8% in 2023, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
  • According to the WHO/UNICEF, the rural population using basic sanitation services was approximately 8.2% in 2020.
  • Among households, according to the National Health Development Plan (PNDS), 27% of compounds lacked any latrines. The absence of latrines leads to the practice of open defecation.
  • The rate of access to drinking water in semi-urban areas was 55.9% in 2023, according to the Togolese Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
  • The gross primary school enrollment rate was 120-126% in 2021, and the secondary school enrollment rate was 65.26% in 2023, indicating a significant drop-off between primary and secondary education.
  • The Togolese government, with the support of civil society organizations, is working to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty among households living in extreme poverty.

Our Commitment

Our struggle is aligned with: the Togolese government's National Development Plan (PND), which aims to structurally transform the economy for strong, sustainable, resilient, inclusive growth that creates decent jobs; the African Union's Agenda 2063, with its goals for inclusive and sustainable development; and the action plan of each community we visit.
