DZIDZO Association: An unwavering commitment to environmental protection

Founded in 2020, the «DZIDZO» association, which means «Joy» in the Ewé language (spoken in southern Togo), has made environmental protection one of its priorities. As well as working to improve the quality of life, the association also works to strengthen the vegetation cover.

To this end, DZIDZO, which aims to provide answers to land degradation and low agricultural yields, is successfully introducing into the ecosystem of impoverished land plant varieties. For the organization, the aim is to improve soil fertility, promote organic farming, reduce the incidence of fires during the dry season and thus combat poverty. Soil degradation is one of the main causes of poverty.

« The Association's activities have helped reduce bush fires and uncontrolled logging, as well as restoring soil fertility. The group has also undertaken reforestation efforts in communities, improving forest cover and restoring ecosystem functioning. These actions have increasingly strengthened the level of solidarity between local communities in the field », explained Dr. Kokou Ido, Vice-President of the DZIDZO Association.

The DZIDZO Association aims to contribute to an effective fight against poverty in Togo. Its aim is to enable communities to lead fulfilling lives through access to essential resources, water, basic healthcare, education, vocational training and income-generating activities in a healthy environment.

DZIDZO also mobilizes communities to manage natural resources sustainably and protect biodiversity. «Agriculture is the main source of income for our people. for our populations. Forests are also an important source of livelihoods, with a significant proportion of the population heavily dependent on logging and the cultivation of medicinal plants. So we have a thousand reasons to work to protect the environment».
